Bernie J. Kosar, Jr.
Bernie’s football career as one of the most respected and effective quarterbacks in the history of the NFL began at the University of Miami, where he led his team to the 1983 National Championship and was chosen as MVP of the Orange Bowl Classic. In 1985, he was first pick of the supplemental draft for the Cleveland Browns. He led the Browns to the playoffs in each of his first five NFL seasons, winning four division titles—the highest number of any NFL quarterback since 1970. In 1986, he led the NFL with a 1.9% interception ratio, establishing his hallmark for accuracy as a passer. The same year, he also broke the NFL Playoff Record for passing when he passed 489 yards in one game while playing against the New York Jets. Bernie holds the NFL record set in 1991 for the most consecutive passes without an interception, a record previously held by Bart Starr for 26 years. Mid-way through the 1993 season, Bernie signed with the Dallas Cowboys and substituted for the injured Troy Aikman in the second-half of the 1993 NFL Championship game, leading the Dallas Cowboys to the Super Bowl XXVII Championship. Before the start of the 1994 season, he was signed by the Miami Dolphins. Although he saw little action on the field in 1994, he was an integral force in helping the Dolphins reach a playoff berth. Bernie ranks fourth in NFL history for lowest career interceptions at 2.59%. In 1997, he received the Gillette “Peoples Choice” Award for NFL MVP. The Cleveland Browns recognized his invaluable contribution to the team by inducting him into the inaugural Legends class in 2001 and he was also inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. After 12 seasons of calling winning plays as one of the most productive quarterbacks in NFL history, Bernie Kosar has turned to the business and corporate playing fields. Bernie now tackles business opportunities as an advisor, corporate officer and director of a number of business enterprises. He is currently President of BJK L.L.C., a real estate investment company, a Director of Envision, a prescription drug subscription plan in Solon, Ohio, a former Director of Wildcard Systems, a developer of software and smart cards in electronic payment systems headquartered in Florida, and was a partner in Cleveland Pacific Equity Ventures. In addition to overseeing the activities of a dozen corporations representing his diversified business and charitable interests, Bernie serves on the board of several corporations and organizations. As his most recent business venture, Bernie holds a key stake in Mobile Posse, an innovative technology start-up focused on the mobile advertising market. Mobile Posse attracted Bernie’s keen business acumen with its introduction of revolutionary software that allows wireless phone subscribers to receive relevant advertisements, information and offers via mobile devices. | What is Mobile Posse?Learn More> |
